According to Wikipedia, the Lincoln LS was produced 2000-2006(?). It used a 3.0L Duratec as one of its 2 option motors, the other a 3.9L Jaguar variant. The first 2 years or so the 3.0 was available with both a manual as well as an automatic trans. I have not found what designator was for the manual tranny. I assume that it was a longitudinal mount. I would like to learn a bit more about that tranny, does it have the same Duratec bolt pattern as the MTX-75?, Is it aluminum? Is the bellhousing integral with the gear case?
How about that 3.9L? Does it have the Duratec bolt pattern?, Does it come from the Duratec family, or is it a pushrod engine? Should I bother trying to find one of these and replace my 3.0 with it? Please forget about dimensions. Thanks |

What is this going into?
The LS was longitudinally mounted with a Getrag 221 MT for the V6. It couldn't hold up to the TQ of the 3.9L V8 (Jaguar derived, DOHC) so no manual for the V8. The S-type also used the 221... It is aluminum. The bell does bolt to the case but a look at it shows that it is likely not interchangable with other cases. http://www.rsbible.co.uk/duratec/duratec.htm - Some pics. Alternatively I'm looking at a T5 but it does require a custom flywheel to meet the starter. http://www.key-ideas.com/DavidGodfreyPage.htm The RX7 TT box has been mounted to a LS. http://www.miata.net/news/v6.html A 1" thick spacer ring is needed though and I'm not sure on starter/flywheel issues yet... Thanks do ya mind if I ask what the hell your trying to do exactly? the lincoln is longitudinal front engine RWD. the jag engine is double overhead cam V8, but not related to the duratec in any way, the v12 in an aston martin vanquish on the otherhand, is a duratec |

I am building a car around the engine/trans. Currently I have a Porsche transaxle, but the conversion is a bit more intense than a swap of say a Ford to a GM. This is because the transmission is shared between to separate locations, clutch in one housing at front engine and the transaxle at the rear, torque tube joining. The rear does have a bellhousing of sorts, but no starter or fork support. The input shaft appears long enough, but no pilot bearing provision. On the plus side the tranny is short, stout and has good gearing for my application. The input shat is 1" and has a 23 spline.
Thanks for the link to pictures. The tranny, is certainly short, this is good, and looks like there is an adapter plate. Nervous about the TQ limitations, though. Sounds like its right on the edge with the 3.0. Worth a look-see. Think I'll continue on with the Porsche. What is this going into?
