As most will know,DHL is shutting down its USA domestic shipping service in Jan '09. We use DHL as our carrier so between now and then we will have a new carrier. We will advise customers who and when. Thank You.

I read this morning that Deutsche Post was cutting 5,000 American jobs... (Owner of DHL). Looks like UPS and Fed-Ex win (bad for us).

What's to miss? In my experience they were just as incompetent and unreliable as the other services. Something I should have received in two days took seven days because it was routed to Virginia Beach instead of Washington, DC. thumbdown.gif

While none of the shippers are better than the others... DHL's advantage was everything went air, nothing hardly went ground compared to UPS and Federal Express. DHL had shorter delivery times and better rates than the other 2 competitors. Yes, shit happens - I had something that was supposed to ship to me in 2 days end up somewhere completely different because someone at the sorting facility dropped the ball.. However no one is perfect.

German mail and logistics company Deutsche Post AG will cut 9,500 jobs at its DHL unit in the U.S. and eliminate U.S.-only domestic express shipping by land and air, the company said Monday, citing heavy losses and fierce competition.

Looks like it's getting even worse, first I heard 5,400 jobs... Now it's 9,500 jobs!

I guess Bill Jenkins is looking for another shipper too.
Everything that I've ordered from TeamFordParts has been sent via DHL.

Circuit City is filing for bankruptcy too. I'm sure they can't compete with online stores.

We have been using DHL for shipping worldwide for more than 5 years. They have managed to screw up more than their share of international shipments. They have lost more boxes going to customers who missed their deadlines because of their mistakes and failed to make good on insurance claims. This is not a negative comment about the drivers etc. but the management doesn't have a clue or care about customer satisfaction. DHL usually stands for "Delivered Hours Late" When it absolutely, positively doesn't matter when it gets there. The part about more lost jobs in the U.S. really sucks. Maybe UPS & FedEX will need more help to pick up the extra business, however there may not be any additional shipping because of the economic downturn. The brown trucks and white trucks may just have to work harder to make their management happier. Our DHL driver just picked up. He is convinced that DHL would have been fine if they didn't buy Airborn Express and keep their management who almost killed them.
Good luck to drivers and all the other little guys who suffer at the hands of bad leadership. (Sort of sounds like government)
Thanks Paul

mad.gif Just saw this thread -- what a lot of people may not realize, is that DHL bought Airborne Express, a company based out of Wilmington, OH, that actually had a pretty good record and rep. And, everything did NOT go strictly by air -- I know, because my HD LCD was shipped DHL, went air to somewhere in TN, then was handed off to ground, which in turn handed it off to USPS, and we ALL know how good/efficient the post office is! rolleyes.gif

Anyway, the end result is that 6000 jobs in Wilmington alone have been lost. That, in a town with a population of 12,499 in July 07 (iobviously not all employees lived in Wilmington), is devastating, as it also affects virtually all of the businesses in town, from gas stations to fast food. Oh, incidentally, if you're not aware, T-Mobile is also a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Post. Privatization (of Deutsche Post) definitely was not a good thing in this case -- oh, that's right, hasn't turned out to well for the U.S. Post Office either, has it? bleh.gif
