First impressions driving my SVT with traction control (3L)...

Yesterday I had a nice day to take out my SVT and actually get some decent seat time. I'm still in the process of bedding my brake pads and seasoning my rotors.. But I did have some time to take advantage of the traction control I added to the car.

First off, the Contour Traction Control module does not only operate the brakes to slow a spinning wheel. It also interacts with the PCM to retard spark timing to bring the engine power down to slow the wheels as well. I found this out pulling out of a parking lot turning left into traffic. I punched it kind of hard and when I crossed the median strip it lost grip in the gravel and the traction control intervened. My wheels didn't spin, I noticed the yellow/orange "Traction Control" light flashing and the engine sounded like I installed a soft rev control on it. It sorta stuttered softly until the traction was regained and then the car burst forward with full power. At first I was suprised, as I knew the data lines to the PCM were there for a reason - But didn't expect it to actually rev control the car through the engine management. It works pretty flawlessly, great for wet weather with a 3L when any provocation of the throttle normally produces wheel spin in the lower gears (i.e. 1st, 2nd and 3rd) over 1/3 throttle.

Well, no more wheel hopping for me in the wet weather (unless I hit the disable button). Just one more thing to protect my drivetrain and diff...
