ok, it had type f in it, the book of lies says type f. then again, the book of lies says to put mercon ATF in my mtx too.

it also thinks I have a spedometer cable, and rod shifting, and lots of other out of date info for my car, with no notice of year changes and differences.

so....

what am I actually supposed to put in my power steering? I already skrewed up and dumped a little ordinary PS fluid in there before my brain engaged and reminded me that the fluid that came out was red. so if thats bad, then I have to flush that junk out. if it's right, then I'll just dump the rest in.

thanks

Here's what my manual says:
Ford Part Name: MERCON power steering
fluid
Ford Part #: E6AZ-19582-AA
Ford Part Spec: ESW-M2C33-F

I've used Mobil1 ATF in mine and it's worked fine so far. The Mobil1 website says that it will meet or exceed OEM specs.

Mercon, Mercon V, or any full synth ATF will work. I use Royal Purple MaxEZ or Mobil 1 ATF in all my cars.

I do believe the 95s called out Type F, I know this is when I went to renew the ps fluid in my 95 that is what was listed in the owners manual.

On my 99 it called out the mercon so I used Mobil1 ATF.

also no way on a 98 that you have rod shifting or a spedometer cable.

cool, so icksnay on the ype f tay

I might have some mercon out in the shed, I'll go look and see, it will work just to flush that junk out and also put something in there so it's not running dry everythime I start the car. that will definately blow her up. PS pumps are full of nylon gears and such

I'll get some synthetic ATF tomarrow

thanks
