This IS a real engine that is being developed for the 2011 Indy Car series, rumor has it that VW are working on parts of it and it may have the Bugatti nameplate.Honda is also working on a similar unit..Yes its a DOHC,16 cylinders, 2.0 ltr and blown....

Now that sounds interesting. At first I thought siamesed cylinders (re 400 SBC) were making a come back.
...maybe the paired cylinders have a common combustion chamber.Seen that before, two pistons common chamber...

....more cylinders more power strokes etc..The Honda Formula 1 engine back in the 60's/ 70's was an example. Formula 1 also used to be V8 and went to V10.. Many strange cylinder set ups over the years..Look up a engine called the 'King Bugatti' engine or the Rolls-Royce Merlin etc etc...
I'm familiar with both of those engines and a few other exotics. They are all interesting and beautiful. True engineering works of art. But they all have one thing in common, they are now just foot notes in history. Bits and pieces of their design did funnel down into more traditional configurations but they did not survive in total. We always return to the standard block configuration.
