MTX Gear 'Types'

Recommended Posts

...as we have discussed changes from early to late output shafts when we change FDR's etc ,I thought it a good idea to explain why some gears from say an early type output shaft will not interchange onto a late type shaft.

Below in the two pics you will see 3 gear ALL are first gears from various levels/car types of MTX75. You will note the following major points..

*Not all the gears have the same tooth 'cut',pitch etc, some are course some are fine teeth.

*Not all the gars have the same internal diameter where they fit onto the shaft..

This is important because these gears must mesh correctly with the gear on the input shaft, the one that carries the clutch splines etc. The input shafts have 3 gears that are m/c onto the solid shaft and cannot be replaced, these gears are 1st,2nd & reverse, also note that not all input shafts are not the same length and change depending on engine types. From this you can see that a good X reference of what will match what when doing some output shaft/FDR conversions is a must. The Ford parts list, shop CD or the assy number on the trans will not give you this matching info. This is why, over the years, we have built up our own unique parts matrix of what with match what!

This info is unique to HMS. Hope the pics explain it better...Other gears also need to be exchanged on such FDR conversions and not just 1st gear, it's quite complex..
