Well it was a pain in the ass, but my ass dyno was smiling when all was said, and done!! Until I got home after test drive, and pulled up in my driveway, and the water pump had a bowel movement all over the driveway !! So the next morning back up in the air she went for a new H2O pump, thermostat, and radiator flush, Wooooooooo !! Here's some moments of pleasure.

Is that the same S&B Filter from the KKM kit?

And one of the few true CAIs that draws cooler air from the fender (since most other installs suck hot air from under the hood.)
I remember Dom had the same setup.

dgproctor, did you feel any difference in performance after the install? Just curious.

I don't care for the NPG CAI mod, it requires you to basically cut out the fender to inner fender support. That weakens the mounting for the fender and the bumper. That's a silly way to do a CAI, although it is about the only way without relocating the battery. My CAI does not go that route, it goes down where the fusebox sits and is centered in the left front bumper area.

If you want to see something horrible, ask him to post a picture of the fender inner mounting point to the inner wheel well. Especially right where the pipe has to pass through. I will not install these at the shop - They are a liability to install.

Yes there's more pull in the upper RPMs

I believe he's asking for a pic of the area that required sawzall modification.

Third picture, right where the tube comes through into the wheel well there should be a support. The slightly curved line at the bottom of the fender is where he cut it off

I see. Do these require taking a hole saw to the inner fender like the KKM extension?

...funny how, even the stoc air intake, pulls the air from under the fender!!!

Do you see the circled area, this is the area you have to cut away to install the NPG CAI. This mount secures the bottom of the fender and the bumper!! The only thing the fender is screwed to is the composite headlamp mounting panel (which will break away if stressed - Hence the fender mounting point to secure the bumper and headlamp mounting panel).

Sorry, not worth it in my book. I'd rather relocate my battery than affect the integrity of the fender and bumper. Grab his bumper at the fender mounting point, it will pull in and out because there is no support.... Posted Image

I have yet to see, with any of these CAI systems..data. That is,same car ,same day, same ambient temp..air temp at t/body with stoc system and air temp with an aftermarket system..funny that??/

Same way on the restrictions of a stoc air cleaner...never seen any manometer readings from that vs an aftermarket...strange eh???

True, from this angle it really does look like the KKM/S&B filter, just without the inlet flange.

IMO the K&N is inferior to the S&B because the K&N has a flat "face filter", where the S&B has a deep concave one for a much greater surface area. Also, the KKM/S&B is designed with an inlet flange to connect the "face filter" to the stock fenderwell airbox. I think these features make it quite competitive with other kits by delivering considerable performance while keeping cost and labor to a minimum... no chopping or grinding involved. Basically, I feel the KKM/S&B setup is the best bang for your buck IF you're going to be losing the stocker. It is well designed and flows smoothly (note: for some reason I don't have the diffuser screen in mine, but still no trouble whatsoever).

True, the stock setup was quite a sharp design. However, to me it seems a bit too restrictive to deliver top performance. I don't know, I guess it's a compromise between colder air and less flow. JMHO

It would be nice to see some real numbers, though...

...just my point,no DATA!!..

I don't 'do' the 'bling effect'= looks good ,must be good, the 'noise effect' sounds good=more power, etc etc...It's time we had some real data on CAI..not bling or sound!!!
