    1999 Contour SVT

Hi i loved the look and performance aspect of the SVT Contours/ focus ever since it came out. Now that i have the oppourtunity to own one i need some help.

I went to see a 99' SVT Contour with 256,000KM on it. He wanted $1000 but we agreed on $800.

I have to say it was well maintained, the guy who owned it knew his cars. Its got CFM short shifter, new Panasonic deck, magnaflow resonator, new alternator, bat y pipe etc etc and comes with other parts, the tires seemed good too.

Although i was fairly happy with the car it had few flaws, some minor things that needed look after like the dash needed to be re attached....(recall thing that Ford didn't fix but gave out DIY kits...) and other minor things like paint, missing side skirt caps (jack), brakes needs works... Obviously with $800 im not expecting a gold mine anyway... those stuffs dont worry me...

what worries me is the fact of the high km, and the transimission. The owner never touched the transimssion so im guessing clutch needs to be changed soon... It felt weak?... and how many km can i expect to get out of the motor b4 i have to yank it out and rebuild it....

Any tips or suggestions!! I really love the car i do want to get it, but i want to know what im getting into before i buy it not after.... Is it smart to buy it with that high km... i know if i do buy the car i can part out for more profit but i want to get it to restore it not.... part out... THanks!!!!!

The clutch, should be on its way out with that mileage. For a 800 what do you have to lose? :welcomeani:

Don't forget rust: bottoms of doors (especially the rears) and bolts/nuts especially in the undercarriage, hinges - even under the dash. Nightmare getting subframes off, etc. Parts are easy - rust is not.

thanks for the tips guys! So im going to get it if it has no other issues that i am not aware of and if there isnt a lot of rust underbody. The rockerpanel and the framerails seemed to be rust free but then again i went to see at night so couldnt really tell... Thanks!

The side skirts can hide severe rocker panel corrosion. But it's really hard to go wrong at that price. You could get your money back via a part-out.
