Members of the forumI'm active on, NewCougar.org, have all told me that I should come here to ask Terry Haines about the possibility of swaping in a 2002 Lincoln LS 3.L V6 Duratec. Stock it has 220HP compared to the standard 3L with 200HP. I'm told he's the only on to ever try this swap. I've located one of these engines at a great price.

What more would need to be modified on this egnine that you wouldn't have to do if you swaped in my second choice, a 2003 Tauras Engine for example?

Here's all the info we have about it on our forum:

The 2002 Lincoln LS did have a 3L motor without VVT. In 2002 it was bumped up to 220hp and 215ftlbs. The reason for the increase in hp in these motors is due to the direct-acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) vs the roller finger followers (RFF) used in the 200hp 3L motors. Unfortunately being a Lincoln the used motors prices are very high and nobody to my knowledge has tried one so I'm not sure if there are any issues to prevent the use of these motors. You will pay nearly double the cost for a LS motor vs a Taurus/Sable motor and in the end you only get 10-20hp so I don't think it's worth the time and money for the little gain you get.

I'm gonna say that even without VVT, the LS engine will not fit. The front cover is too deep and the shallow 2.5L front cover won't fit the LS engine. I think you'd be better off with a tried and true method such as the '04-05 Taurus/Sable engine. Once it's tuned, you'll be closer to 235hp 220tq at the crank.

The passenger motor mount is another significant issue. There are two coolant snouts that pass through the 'V' here...

We did a lot of package work on the LS 3.0..bottom line..way to expensive to convert.A better choice would be the 3.0 Jag X type engine. This can be fitted with LS non VVT cams etc but has a better engine mount system.Still will need some mods but it gets you DAMB heads.

Terry, one other question, did you also try a 2002 Lincoln LS 3.0L engine? Some on NewCougar say that this engine is different than the newer ones and that it is more likely to be an easy swap than the newer ones.
Thanks

Any of the 3.0 engines with DAMB heads will give you an issue with, motor mount,FEAD,front chain cover, coolant lines etc etc...Later engines have VVT...

I uderstand. One last question, is their a particular year of 3.0 Jag X type engine that you recommed for an easier swap?

The Jag X Type 3.0 is FWD/AWD unit..BUT if you go that route I suggest you look under the hood of a X Type..Best conversion would be to take all the wiring ,EEC modules etc etc as the Jag has a later EEC,VVT and many other electronic changes.Would be a costly conversion..
