Hello all, I'm a new member to the forum.
I have a 1998 Contour SVT that is stuck in first gear. I bought the car with the problem ( It was cheap to buy, was hoping for a simple fix..)
A mechanic checked out the car and said that there is probably something wrong with the transmission internally, and that he would have to remove the transmission to determine exactly what the problem is.
The car is in good condition overall except for the transmission issue. I would like to fix it but don't know expensive it might get.
Is there anyone that might have had this issue with their Contour SVT, or that might have a good idea of what the problem is? Thank You!

Hello, Welcome to FCO.
Your question should be directed to the proper forum - But I will say from what you are describing that it sounds like either a bad shift end (come off) or the bolt sheared off inside the shift tower in the trans which will cause it to stay in one gear only with no way to change it (there will be no resistance in the gear shifter and will flop around without moving the gears).

..may want to take a look at my forum,lots of info about 'The Bolt' on the trans shft tower...Lot of new members here?....what am I missing???
