i was changing out a reverse lamp and noticed there was an empty socket in between the reverse lamps on the inside of the trunk lid. if i had to guess what it was for, i would say its for the brake lamp on the spoilers that was an option? or am i way off the mark?
socket found in trunk

That is correct. It should be a triangular 3 pin socket.

so parta my delight in finding this socket was because i planned on using this 3rd brake light outlet as the connector to the led's that i wanted to add to the rear reflector on the trunk. i wanted part of the reflector to light up when the brakes are on. i got to work this afternoon, installed the leds which were wired in parallel and tested them with a battery to make sure they were wired correctly. after i connected them to the socket i found, i tested the brakes hoping that it was just that simple. and wouldn't you know it, nothing lit up.... :( however, i did notice that the new led's did blink when i was arming the car and double pressed the lock button...
im no electrical engineer and what i learned in high school physics have been forgotten... now my guess is resistors? im just stabbing in the dark here cuz every time i think of led's not working in a 12v appication, i think resistors... did i just waste a whole afternoon messing with this for nothing or is there something i didn't do correctly?

Test the pins in the socket with a DMM for voltage. Also, you may have the polarity reversed on the LEDs. Not all LEDs work regardless of polarity.

i took a second look at the socket and its actually a two pin type instead of 3. did some research on how to connect led's and completed the install with resistors. the LED's now light up when ever the brake lights come on! :) :)
btw, the original LED's i installed burnt out due to the lack of resistors.

I'd like to know how you installed the leds in the trunk reflector. I was thinking of putting running lights in it. Pictures would be real nice.
Thanks Paul

i am in the process of freshening up the looks of the rear end. i will take some pics as soon as all is completed. it really isn't anything fancy at all. i drilled 3 holes onto the back to the reflector board pretty close together and hot glued the LEDs into the holes. as for how to connect LEDs, that's a search away on google that really isn't worth reposting... you can actually find LED connecting instructions on NECO forums if that helps any :)

I am also excited to see the mod for this.
