i have a 98 SE, V6 auto...

It has ran and drovee great forever, until recently. First i thought the crank sensor went out, turned out to be the wires (as i am sure everyone on here knows about) but i replaced the cam nd crank sensor as well as traced the wires all the way to the factory "butt style" connections at the firewall, just bfore it goes into the car and replaced all the cracked wiring.

As soon as i finish that, the car has no overdrive and shifts up hard as hell, i assume it is the VSS so i just threw a new on on there and replaced the wires almost all the way up to the connector by the strut tower/air filter box. That didnt fix the problem. Anyone have an ecu pinout or something so i can just run 3 brand new wires from the ecu pins? Or any other ideas?

The car only has 100" on it, power everything, leather, etc... GREAT shape except for this issue. Just want my gas mileage back as i drive 55mph+ all day at like 3K rpm in 3rd gear.

Check engine light? Codes stored? Normally if the trans starts to act funny the CEL will come on or the O/D off light will start flashing. Replacing the crank sensor wiring doesn't interfere with the VSS wiring all the way on the other side of the car.

VSS code is all. What i think happened... Wheni was replacing the crank sensor, it was broke offand melted into the hole. I had to fight it, drill it, yank it with needle nose etc... Point being, in order to get to it, i had removed the motor mount and and dropped the engine down a way. Thinking that might have put stress one the wires.

Also, all wires lead back to the same giant loom on the passenger side. That is where is cut into the crank/cam wires to replace them. Messing around there could have als easily messed with the wires as i am sure they are just as screwed up as the rest of them.

no one can help? I dont want to junk this thing because it is awesome except for this no overdrive and hard upshifting issue! Engine code is still VSS issue.

I cut wires on the passenger side at the firewall and ran new ones for the cam/crank sensors. I dont imagine the vss is tied to that in any way but that is the only thing that changed when this issue started! I am thinking about tieing the clipped ends back in just in case but that makes no sense to me that it would me tied into the VSS some how.

I replaced the VSS wires from the sensor to the big connector on the drivers side strut tower but that didn't change anything either.

got it fixed... I just tied the orignal wires from the crank and cam sensors back into the new wires and everything is golden. Apparently the VSS sensor wires are, in some way, tied into the cam and/or crank wires.
