Just wanted to drop a line and say hello.
Registering here after taking a short look around, and the CEG site evidently being out of order some time.
Was looking for details on doing a engine swap on a '98 SVT with a blown rod, :stretcher:{Appears it's a late '97 SVT} that I'm looking at buying.
I was going to simply swap a standard 2.5 from a cougar or contour.

I'll fully admit I am of the older Ford, knuckle dragging variety of mechanic as I prefer my Gran Torino Sport or F150 over the contour for ease of service, but I do love the road rocket that the Contour can be. I'll do my best to be helpful as I can be...but got a fair amount of flaming :nono: from a few of the "kids" on CEG because I ran leaded gasoline and had it noted in my signature.

Anyways, here's a peek of the 'tour and the other rides.

Welcome to FCO. Nobody is going to flame you here... Especially since I'm the owner and a big petrol head myself. These "youngsters" have no idea about the leaded fuels and why it's needed. Perhaps a lesson in the valvetrain and how the lead lubricates those components may be required..lol.

Anyhow, welcome and don't be a stranger.

I can almost guarantee he didn't run leaded gasoline in the Tour, lead contaminates catalytic converters. However the Torino and the older F series I could see him running leaded gasoline with no issues. I realize the younger generation has no idea about leaded gasoline (pulled from the market around the time most of you were just popping out of the womb..lol), but I wish sometimes your generation would stop jumping to conclusions over things you don't understand.

In the end, we're all the same. Case in point, your Diamond wheels on the Torino are now the "in" thing on every civic sportin' an incorrect offset. :drunk:

My comment was more general than pointed at you RoyalBlue...

I've had plenty of engines that required lead additives after they stopped selling leaded gasoline ages ago. The additives aren't the same as the actual gas tho..

Welcome eliteman76! I too am of the older variety - just so you know some other more "seasoned" 'Tour owners are still out there. Yes I originally bought my CSVT due partially to budget concerns but I also bought it - and continue to keep it - because of the truly unique combination of qualities these small sport sedans offer. Maybe you feel the same?

You mentioned upgrades. I am drooling to take #2389 to the next level. Dom just posted about some custom grind cams for the 3L that he has developed, you should check it out. Maybe one day I'll step up and ask Dom to work his magic for me - but not before I can pony up for his "Fast and Expensive" treatment (heh heh).

Nice Torino! So rare to see a good one anymore. . . . .
