Hey all! So I have 2 98 SVT's and they seem to be having the same issue that starts after I get on them a couple of times. It seems that they (stop hooking up all the way) and aren't as fast once I've opened them up a few times after they start and get warmed up. The exaust will all of a sudden sound way beefier, but then there seems to be less power getting to the ground. For example when (normal) you hit the gas and there is that split sec. lag before everything fully hooks up and your gone. When (not normal) I will hit the gas and they will go but there is no (hook-up) and the exaust sounds beefier but I'm not accelerating as fast. To correct or fix the problem, I have to turn the car completely off and pull the keys out of the igntition. Upon restarting it will fix the problem for a couple of runs but will eventually start doing it again. What is happening? Has any1 experienced this before?
Thanx for any insight....

I had the exact same problem with my '99 CSVT and it ended up being the IMRC. These are a pretty common failure point with our cars. I believe you can solder in a new part or just replace the whole assembly.
Aussie Ford and I would also say this is a good time to check and make sure that all of the actuator grommets are still present and working properly. Hope this helps.

I think Woogieman is on the right track. Do you have a CEL? The PCM should set a code if the IMRC module is not functioning correctly. If the grommets have fallen out of the Bank 2 secondaries you may not get a code but you will have symptoms. I've had some that would stick open and set a code. All it needed was some physical adjustment of the cable bracket.

I agree on the IMRC problem..... It will alter the exhaust sound slightly and if hung shut the car will not accelerate as quick.

Those pesky plastic linkage retainers can be replaced using door lock retainers sold in packs at AP stores. They can cause crazy things and sometimes not set a code...... It's about a $5 fix to gain back 36HP if that is your problem. The hard part is seeing them, they are located under the TB behind those water hoses in that real dark area.
Remove your IMRC cover then rev the engine by hand while watching the IMRC. You should be able to see the cable move. Then look for movement under the TB in the area just towards the front and you should see a rod push a lever when you rev the engine. If you don't see that or you see a rod laying there not connected that is when you replace the retainers. IF at first you rev the engine and the cable doesn't move every time then your issue is with the IMRC but you should have a code with that problem.
My 2 cents,
AF

What's the maintenance history. With only the miles and no history, I'm gonna say gunked up intake manifold and worn spark plugs.
