Hey, what's up everyone! I just bought my first SVT Contour (SVTC or CSVT, which one is it). We're a military family up here in Kodiak, Alaska, and the car has been here on the island it's whole life so the miles are low. It's a '98 with 78K on the clock. Well, as you can imagine the drivetrain is still pretty nice and has been taken care of, but the body leaves something to be desired. I don't know if it had a fender bender or what, but some of the body panels in the front are out of alignment and it has a crappy black paint job over the original red. I'll probably keep the black, and when we leave the island I'll take it to the body shop to have everything made right.
The only mechanical quirks are that the ABS light is on and the CEL is on. Won't know about the CEL until I get a reader, but is there a common problem with the ABS like the control module or something going out? ABS gets a real workout here between the ice, snow, and rain.
Thanks everyone!

These cars it's common that the rear sensors and hubs rust and rot. If you pull the two back wheels, you should be able to see behind the rotor to the abs tone wheel (looks like a flat toothed gear around the hub). If it's split in any way or severely corroded that can be causing your issues.

Thanks, Dom. That's definitely going on the list of to-dos as soon as the weather improves. Right now its 20* with 40-60mph winds.

Welcome to the .org Justin.
Dom definately is the man when it comes to overall technical questions on this vehicle.
You will also find alot of others that have extremly good knowledge about this vehicle.
Enjoy your 'tour, I'm sure you'll like it. Just don't try to take out any moose legs and you'll be fine.

Welcome. It's CSVT best I can tell. Hey do you ever get to Dutch Harbor? I'm friends with some people up there but they don't have an SVT of any sort (ha). So I guess a run is out of the question lol. Don't feel bad, I'm out here in the stix myself but thanks to this site you can get all the info you need for your new baby.

No, I don't get out that way. I've been out of the military for 10 years now, but my wife is the coastie and her boat goes there quite often. Yeah, my Contour is probably the only one on the island. Right now I'm going to focus on fixing any little bugs with the mechanics. Asthetics will have to wait till we leave the island, as the winters here are pretty harsh. This year has been the worst in decades. The normal winter snow fall is around 30 inches. As of yesterday we've passed 80 inches.
