So, while replacing the starter I found this long wire coming out of the insulation at the firewall:

It wasn't connected to anything and was dangling loosely on top of the intake manifold. The end was too small to fit on any of the starter terminals or at the fusible link which I had disconnected. I figured it looked like a ground wire and connected it to the nearest convenient spot, which was here:

Everything seems to be working correctly after taking a test drive. Does anyone know what this wire goes to?

That is just a ground, where it is connected is fine. It won't increase or decrease the power or performance of the engine.

Glad my hunch was right on it being a ground wire. Do you know what it goes to though? The car used to have the CEL on and now it's off after connecting this.

If you follow that wire it's just connected to the firewall... It's just a simple ground.

Ahh, nothing important. Must just be a coincidence that the CEL went off at the same time.
