So . . .
I was about to renew my CA CSVT reggie but I need a smog and I actual plan to, once I finish my Miata(within a week or 2), park the CSVT and start cleanin her up, modding and restoring.

Then I was like what the heck, I have a ton of space and all the time in the world, why not do a engine swap.

But not just any, I want to get outrageous.

RWD 4.6L SOHC conversion?
AWD Jag drivetrain with 4.6L V8 or 3.0L V6?

yes some LOL but I am dead f'ing serious!

It needs to be legal, SO, being in Crappyfornia i'll need a 1999 OR NEWER donor vehicle INCLUDING ALL emissions equipment.

SO, with that said. . .

I figure a newer stang wouldn't use the 4 cats like some older 5.0 stangs (researched a lot for my 5.0 Miata swap I want to complete in the future)
Fewer cats means fewer expense there.

I also don't want to worry about the possibility of having 24 o2 sensors either.
My miata has one, my CSVT has I think 5 or 6. =( W T F !!!

I would also like to stick to the Ford family for power plants.

(another problem with the 5.0L Miata, I may end up doing a rotory Miata. . . . =)

OH I also can't use truck or suv engines in a "car" . . . . . Thank you CA.

Ideas, suggestions, etc.?

I say go for a 4.6 dohc they are the same size most wouldnt think so but they are.
I know there will be guys saying it can't be done but if you have the skills to build your own mounts and do all the fab work
anything is possable.
One thing i can see being a problem is hood clearance but hey custom cowl hood or something would fix that
and also you are gonna have to cut the transmission tunnel and build your own also

The Jag power-train won't handle any appreciable TQ input reliably. Use a a longitudinal layout with a RWD trans or an EVO/equivalent turbo FWD based AWD trans.

great ideas from you both.

yeah the jag powertrain is not gonna handle much if any over stock power numbers.

I like the idea of the FWD based AWD but that will be much more then I want to spend.

Looks like Front Engine RWD will be the route for the first phase.

I noticed the thing about the DOHC 4.6 is they are quite wide but since the car is FWD it has a pretty wide engine bay so shouldn't be a problem.

Making the trans tunnel and driveshaft/exhaust channel will be tough/fun. lol

I am lookin for good deals on engines but they are all pretty $$$
I may check on some mustang and ford forums.

I would REALLY like a 03 ish Mach 1 DOHC

Honestly...issue with the mod motors, they are freaking wide by huge in terms of things.
Put this in perspective:
Ford 460, compared to the 4.6/5.4 mod in a 1972-1976 Gran Torino...and the Mod motor is wider.

I'd be inclined to tell you find a 4.0 stand, or call up ford motorsports about getting a 3.5 ecoboost kit...
Back it with a tko500.

Concerning the layout...honestly, my thoughts have been to get a SN-95 chassis mustang. Or, a fox body in the 87-93 years {or SVO tbird...}
slice out the rear floor pan, wheel houses, etc to get the factory form link, and weld into the floor of the contour.
Front will be an issue, you will need to hack off the entire front subframe and structure. I mean, you could do a mustang2 setup, but if you take the entire firewall forward, you could drop the contour stuff and weld it together.

Either that, or find a Ford Fairmont, and transfer all the 5.0 stuff. 4 doors without all the BS of hacking up the contour.

{Myself, I want to get a 2003-up CVPI {cop car crown vic}, and use the front half of the frame, tie into an 72 Gran Torino Sport}, complete with lower firewall, a 6.2L V8 from an SVT raptor,and a T56 viper spec 6 speed. Delusional. Yes, that I am}
