Ok i just got a 1998 svt contour and my speedometer is not working at all. I believe it is the VSS but i cannot find it anywhere. I have looked on the back of the transmission and on the top under the intake with no luck. Someone please help me find this thing.

its by fire wall in the middle of the engine if u jack up the passenger tire it will be in the middle of the car at least it was on my 2.0

It's on the rear of the trans, drivers side. Look down the area behnd the air cleaner assy to the left of the shift tower assy. You will see a black sensor with a black harness coming off of it plugging into the main engine harness. That's the sensor.

...under the car...where passenger side jack/link shaft enters the trans...just above where that shaft goes in..Black sensor,unscrew from trans,24 mm wrench for hex on base of sensor..
