smith
I have a tach that I picked up today. The wiring is prety stright forward. Except for the wire for the tach signal. The instructions said to wire it in to the ignition module, but some one else said to run the wire to the power train module which is located behind the power steering reservoir to a white wire with a black stripe. Has anyone hooked up an aftermarket tach (I'm sure you did)? If so did you hook into the ignition module or the power train module? All input is greatly accepted. Thanks Guys. BuckeyeSVT
Ok. I have - Many of them. Some later 1998 models through 2000 have the white/black stripe wire already pre-wired for the instrument cluster. I would suggest looking there first before tapping directly into the PCM - That is a last option idea because any short of that signal will cause other systems to malfunction... (I.E. Auto trans, Cruise control...) -Doc
smith
If it is there all the wiring can be done within the car, no holes dirlled in the firwall. Thanks Doc.
Terry Haines
FWIW on a Contour/Ford the 'powertrain' and 'ignition' module are one and the same!
