Hello I own a 1998 Contour. 2.0 Liter 4 cyl. 100,000 miles.. I have a reocurring CEL of P1131. I am also occasionally experiencing rough idle and sometimes stalling when I am stopped. When I accelerate everything seems fine. It seems that the rough idle only occurs after the car is really warmed up and running for 30 minutes... I have changed air filter, pcv filter, plugs.
Haven't changed the fuel filter. Would a dirty fuel filter cause idle problems and or CEL ?? FYI I haven't replaced the o2 sensors either. Help

I'm not sure what the code stands for but there's no harm in changing the fuel filter. Also, try using a synthetic fuel system cleaner in your gas tank since it usually helps with rough idle problems.
Terry or Dom will know what the code is and will offer a better solution.

Mayank.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1131 bank 1 (Cylinder 1) indicate the fuel/air ratio is correcting rich for an overly lean condition. The HO2S voltage is less than 0.45 volt.

Two possible causes:

Bad O2, or vacuum leak. Normally there is not much that can cause this.. But with over 100,000 miles on the clock, the O2 may be on it's last leg.

It could be the o2's like Dom said or one or two bad injector's and/or the fuel pressure regulator becase I got the same code as you.Are you getting bad gas mileage or a gas smell?

Do you got any more codes besides P1131? Becase it sounds like you are having the same problem i'm having with my car.
