NVH vibration canceler ?

Terry hoping you might have heard just exactly what this 8lb chunk of cast iron was specifically intended? I'm guessing it's trying to cancel a harmonic in the body or a drive train noise.
I'm chasing thunking noise seems to be the exhaust pipe bouncing since putting on new struts this noise which I was hoping was being caused by weak rear springs and original rear struts. I can find no marks on the exhaust pipes actually hitting anywhere. It's almost as if it's a function of the hangers???? My early 98 Mystique LS ATX built 07/97. The noise is only on sharp quick type suspension travel like concrete streets where maintenance is long over due. Rockford,Il. visiting the grandson last week really brought out the noise.
It's not the heat shields-more of a heavier thunk when bounce/struck with my fist in the hanger area under the driver-side passenger. The mounts for the drag links tight, tank straps tight and I removed this cast iron NVH weigh-drove it not near as bad. Haven't noticed any droning noise while driving except when I back up (Rev)turn wheel to right ok to left Ooow I hope that's not something starting to go IE wheel bearing pass-side?
I started replace the rubber exhaust hangers last winter and this when the noise became more noticeable???? I'm using the proper Walker hangers the smaller 3ea in the middle and two larger 1ea rear of muffler and 1 ea by the cat/flex pipe.
It sure be nice to have a lift!!!! AH NVH where the computer modeling program EH? This is still all original factory, I've got the crazy idea with age, corrosion not bad as in heavy, metal fatigue the system as a whole moves/flexs with different moments than new??? With economy I'd really be crazy to replace with all new just to find out
It's still quite! The bean counters only knew they could have shaved a few more pennies of cost?
I just remembered, I think, this was only on ATX cars????
Thanks Sir Terry!

History question Terry!
13 June 2011 - 11:37 AM
Just had to little rust restoration on the rockers under passenger doors only. The body man commented never seen the rear into the rear fender being open. Not sure what he's talking about however I do know when cleaning up the back-up car, getting all that Thumb of Michigan sand and dirty out of the rockers, with the Hvac blower on high, windows closed and normal flow (not re-circulate) air flow exhausts out the rocker drain holes. Tapping bottom of rocker sand and dust blew out of same holes Plus came out around of the rear fender front edge/liner area? The body man has done Fusions and they were not designed like that. He said Bmw's have similar design, making me think Ford of Europe had designed the body. Just curious Terry, this car has been a very interesting learning experience of what goes on in the industry. I've always been one that likes the details of who what where and why and what it takes to develop whatever.

Fuel Leak
23 May 2011 - 11:23 AM
Terry
Finally put the back-up Mistake on the road,The fuel problem's back, only leaks when filled? Let me explain, the fuel pressure delivery and evap system are just fine. However the ports externally leak and the top of the fuel pump plate. I talked to Dom on the phone the other day and he had never heard of one leaking there? Had to replace a whole unit of course, shame the pump itself functioning properly but because of the fuel port seal between the top plate and the ports. Am I making sense???
Luckily the dealer gives me a 30% discount or my cousin actually. Same price as Jenkins in Nevada. Still frustrating though
Especially 6" plate and the floor opening same as early Mistake what 4 1/2 plate. PFS 216 vs PFS 214 only difference is the plate that I can see. Good ole airplane snips - Oh Dom, I had to pop rivet small 2" piece of the metal across the cuts. I realize as you said not a structural area but a left over training from the Ole Marine I guess and own military experience in Korea 1968. The thought of several 100 of thousand North Korea soldiers swamp south, it behooved us to kept a vehicle running perfectly.
Any idea the real reason for plate size or is that hole in the tank size change? Must be something to do with bean-counters and maybe commonality and other Ford vehicles. $$$$
Oh Terry I remember something about the Detroit engineers didn't like you Ford of Europe engineers telling them how to engineer!!!!
I wonder if that animosity still exists Terry? Human nature!!!

Click torque wrench
05 May 2011 - 02:17 PM
Every hear of close enough, not exactly Nist, set-up to check your torque wrench? I've heard Air Force guys having a test unit to check their click torque wrenches daily. I guessing the Snap-on guy might have something?
