About Me
I fell in love with this kit car a long time ago when I had no spare coin to invest, and I'd have done a half-arsed job back then anyway. Now that the kids are grown, and the wives have all left, I decided to reward myself for a good life's work, and build my dream. The discovery of the Contour came after a lot of research for just the right transplant. I wanted all the comfort options along with style and potency. I bought my Contour for $2000, and drove it for nine happy months before starting it's new life as the heart of my sports car. I'm making friends everywhere I go for parts and work on it. Everyone likes this adventurous project. I have brothers that are sports car guys too, and I get loads of encouragement from them to finish so we can all drive the mountains together.

I'm a nerd electronics engineer during the week, and a semi-pro entertainer by weekend. I own a sound company and do local and regional bands, plus a few old nationals a year in the standing audience market.. festivals, municipal, corporate. Learned to drive at 5, and double clutch at 7. Many VWs, buggies, a TR4, and then family cars.

Hottie G/F Mercedes > Hottie @ the Italian Car Show
Posted 09 November 2010
Couple weeks ago we went down to the Inner Harbor to see the cars. She's the ultimate charmer... guys want her to sit in their Ferarris. This year there were no Dino 246, but if I were a rich guy, I'd buy a Mondial before I bought a Dino 246.
Hottie G/F Mercedes > Horrible test ride
Posted 07 November 2010
That ride was pitiful. Started right up, got to bottom of the drive, and the
trans wouldn't go.... the engine lost power, sputtering. I rocked it as best as
I could back up the drive a bit, but it couldn't climb it. After wondering how
I'd gt it back to its parking spot, the engine smoothed out a bit. I decided to
see if I could launch it up the...

Hottie G/F Mercedes > Fronts all checked out good, rears' a different story
Posted 02 November 2010
The one short test drive I made in the car indicated dragging brakes. Understandable since it sat so long. I expected it was the parking brakes. The rim blasting exercise included inspection. The driver side pad wear showed only one (these are two opposing piston type calipers) pad was wearing. This means one of the pistons is stuck in its bore. These...
Hottie G/F Mercedes > cleaned rim
Posted 26 October 2010
Oct 26.
Shoulda showed you a "before" shot, but whatev. They look awful.
I blasted the rim, then clear sprayed it. I have sand in my little spot blaster, then visited a pal with his box blaster. We decided his was another silica media cause I didn't want to use an oxide that could rust spot the alloy rims.
The center cap got wet...

Hottie G/F Mercedes > Pulled the first wheel
Posted 20 October 2010
I had a couple hours of daylight left today so I pulled a wheel to start checking brakes, suspension, and steering. The outside of the rotor was slightly grooved. I ran a sanding disc over it to clear off the years of rust, and the ridges went away mostly. The pads are good. The subframe bushings are not looking real good, but don't need replacing...
