If you are looking for a water pump with a metal impeller Bat inc. makes one that runs about 85 plus shipping. If you are not familiar this company specializes on contour, mondeo, and cougar and other ford models.

The VSS is located on top of the diff, from under the car feel where the axles are and follow the little hump on the case until you feel the VSS sticking out. I found that it was easy to get to from the bottom with a open wrench. Once it breaks lose take it off with you hand and put back in the same way.

Usually the in car test administered at advance or autozone seem to say the alternator is good because the alternators typically fail at higher rpms. Usually this means the alternator is basically out, the other things to check would be check the alternator fuse and mega fuse but I'm almost certain your alternator is quite dead.
On the fluctuating rpm with the a/c on i've seen that on several 2.5L and I think most typically consider that normal.

Here are some pictures we took at a cars and coffee with some friends and since this is a cdw-27 site I'm also attaching a picture of a Noble m400 that was there.

I picked the car with everything in great condition with a clean title and only 83k when I picked it up. I wasn't crazy about the color but for the price I paid I'm not going to complain. In a few years I will probably paint it.

Bought a third car that will hopefully be a little more reliable than the cougar, I'm going to sell my brown contour. As for the Cougar I haven't given up! I'm going to wait for tax season next year and am going to overhaul the suspension, refresh the motor, maybe get an exhaust and definitely have it retuned.

BTW i didn't realize that the when the car was added a thread was made lol. I will post up some more pics here.
