At exactly 4000 RPM's, all the lights including the dash and headlights dim, and about 5500 to 6000 and up the battery light comes on. Is this the early signs of a bad alt?

I installed a custom intake and now the car is bucking and losing power.

the onlything changed was a MAF housing off a 2.0 was swaped so I could just put the K&N filter on

96 Ford Contour 4I 5 Speed Race Car

Been trying to find out info on rules and regs and what not but i've gotten no where. I want to build a race car.

I want this thing to be a road coarse car.
I want so be able to modify the car.
I am going to make a thin metal dashboard with switchs.
The car is gutted already. No interior. Engine is being cleaned inside and out. All new.
Suspension is going to be redone. Same as the exhaust.
the car will get safety equipment, incl. 5point harness and roll cage.

I need help I will definitely admit it. It will take time and money but I want this to happen.

What do i do? Where do I go?

i want to know whats possible with it. can i get as much out of the 2.5 and the 3.0? I'm a bit nervous on the 3.0 because i hear of a lot of failures compared to ones that thrive.

I mean even now i love the sound of the v6. its got such a nice tone to it even when driving normal without any modifications. Can i just throw cams in it? what needs to come with that?

Also where can i find steel tubing for an exhaust if i want to make my own headers? Welding has become a new hobby of mine over the passed year and I've gotten pretty good.


I'm looking to put a custom K&N intake and filter on it. Will that do anything?

I need answers lol. I'm so curious.

Just put new suspension in the rear because the struts were blown out. All i need is the bearings for the front and I'm gonna start them. New Brakes, Calipers, and Rotors all around.

P.S. I keep bragging to everyone about how much fun this car is to drive.

P.S.S. The old contour has been stripped and is now going to be an autocross car. Pictures soon.
