I started off owning a 1989 Ford Tempo, that turned out to be a piece of junk that literally died on me just over a year after I got it. I vowed them to never own a Ford again. I then bought a 1991 Nissan Sentra for 600 dollars with 158,000 miles on it. Talk about problems. I was always changing something on it, and that car was expensive. Fuel Pump, front Axels, Exhaust System, Ball Joints, Tie Rods, UGH! 192,000 miles on that car and 4 years later, I knew I needed a new car. My boyfriend's father is a Contour fanatic. His wife owns a mystique, he has a contour, and his son drives a mystique. Well, he knew I was in the market for a newer car, and Ebay brought to us, a 2000 ford Contour with 118,500 miles on it. A few aesthetic problems were all we seemed to see on the car when we bought it....but since then...the car's been going downhill very fast.

For starters: The transmission just recently started being jumpy. I can go to accelerate from a stop, and not move, but then suddenly jerk forward. My check engine light comes on, and my Camshaft position sensor is faulty, causing some serious idling problems. I get that fixed. I decide to get some of the basic tune up stuff done......turns out the spark plugs had NEVER been changed. They were corroded to no end. Then the car starts to overheat when I'm driving in the city, but not the highway. Turns out the fan that turns on when the engine gets hot stopped working. The trunk leaks in the car as well, and the guy lied to us about it. It was a little wet when he told us that they'd just cleaned it out. I also got my oil changed, and we figured out the oil pan is not the original one on the car and was not sealed properly.

It's just one thing after another. I'm so frustrated with this "new" car :wallbash: My goal was to get rid of some of these problems, and these problems have been worse in the last few week....than the ones I had with my Nissan.

Hello all! New to this site, and looking forward to learning and sharing ideas with everyone!

Unfortunately, I start with a problem with the CSVT I just bought. I purchased it with the "Check Engine" light on, knowing it was running lean in banks 1 and 2 (P0171 and P0174). It was also bucking under acceleration, much like starving for fuel. Also stalled a couple times at stop lights. These were all annoying for my first week of owning my first SVT (Had a 86 Stang GT, sold it in favour of a house! lol) But I did my research, and narrowed it down to a bad MAF Sensor and leaking intake gaskets. I didn't fool around, took it to a SVT Dealer, and got it diagnosed. Sure enough, intake gaskets were dried out and sucking in air. Also, the MAF was reading low, and this concerned the mechanic, warned me that it likely needed replacing as well. I had them do the Intake manifold gaskets, and decided to wait on the MAF, see if I could get away with only $600 worth of work instead of $1000! Well, drove away, stopped at Timmy's for a coffee, and on came the "Check Engine" light again. So, I decided I'd replace the MAF Sensor, but not with the $300 Ford rebuilt, but with an Aftermarket rebuilt. (Cardone) So replaced it saturday, reset the cpu, and things were okay. No light, ran better. Still had a slight hesitation on acceleration still though. But I did notice the part number on the rebuilt sensor was not the same as mine. (the original pulled was F67F-12B579-BA) I could see the new one reads 97BB-12B579-AA. I'm getting just outside my knowledge here, but would like to learn and understand these things (the Mustang was Air Density...lol) If anyone might be able to help me understand or figure this out, I'd appreciate it!

  3. Well, i mean a different clay. Yup! Clayed the car last weekend. Who'd have thought a piece of what looks like silly putty would do such wonders?? Car looks better now than when I bought it second hand from the dealership. I used the Mother's kit that included the bar, detailer and carnauba wax for $16 at Advance Autoparts. Most important of all, it got rid of the mess the Fuxit wash had left me with. Never again will I take my car to one of these places! As for mods this week: First off I dyed the rear deck a cherry red to go with the dash etc. Took a bit of time and a couple of star drives but looks really good. I had thought about replacing the deck with new carpet or something, but Im an impatient bastard, so there we have it. Also while I was in there, I removed the center seatbelt. Currently waiting on the clearcoat on my spoiler to cure so I can get that put on soon. Ordered some red/silver decals for the wheels and emblems and also a Remus stainless dual tip muffler for the ass end. The wife wont like it, but then - she 'aint drivin' it !!

Will probably have some new pics next monday.
