Which one of the oxygen sensors is for bank 1? This seems to be causing the stalling problem on my '98 Contour

I am getting codes p0102, p0171, and p1380 show up on my obd code reader. I think its my downstream o2 sensor but I'm not certain. can someone help please?

Angela,  you can read check engine light codes here

http://www.fordcontour.org/topic/14202-check-engine-light-codes-eec-iv-v-obd2-1996-2002/

I would not change the O2 sensor just yet before correcting the MAF Circuit Low Input.

P0102 MAF Circuit Low Input
P0103 MAF Circuit High Input

P0171 System Too Lean, Bank No. 1
P0172 System Too Rich, Bank No. 1

P1380 Variable Cam Timing Solenoid Valve Circuit Short Or Open
P1381 Variable Cam Timing Advance Excessive
P1383 Variable Cam Timing Advance Excessive

P0102  MAF  Circuit Low Input.   Disconnect Connect and Reconnect connector.   Check that you don't have broken wires.    Clean the Mass Air Flow sensor,   Search here fordcontour.org  or  contour.org for instructions on cleaning MAF.   I bought a MAF sensor from O'Reilly's for $90 with a $14 core change.  Takes about 15 minutes and a screw driver to replace.

P0171  System too lean, Bank 1    This code comes up on a lot of Contours.  I had this code, too.   Could mean a leaking EGR valve letting to much Exhaust gas into the intake.  Or could mean a vacuum leak from a vacuum hose.

I rented a hand pump Vacuum gauge from Autozone for $55, then pulled off the vacuum hose from the Fuel pressure regulator diaphram and connected the gauge with a univeral plastic hose connector.   Then I could measure the intake manifold pressure with the Gauge.  16 - 20 inches HG was appropiate for my Zetec 2.0L 4 cylinder.   Use fingers to feel vacuum hoses to search for any leaks.

P1380 Variable Cam Timing Solenoid Valve Circuit Short Or Open       Again disconnect and connect connector to clean electrical contacts.  Check for broken wires, check for plastic wire covering flaking off.

You did not say what engine is in your Contour  V6 Duratec or inline 4 Zetec

You can read other contour.org webforums here

I am testing my own recently purchased Zetec 97 Contour to find a problem. So  I too am learning from the forums and the school of hard knocks.  Others here are more knowledgeable than I.
