  1. seldom is there an issue with the vacuum booster.however it does sound like you are dealing with a leak. the line does have a valve in the line that could be bad or the line itself could have a crack. And boosters do fail just not often. It is a very simple system to check out. AF
  2. here on the site is the owner notification for the recall. that provides all of the information to replace the 4 harnesses in the engine bay that are affected by the insulation problem. It is a very handy tool. AF
  3. do a compression check that will tell the story in a hurry. if compression is good then there is another problem. is the check engine light on? AF
  4. We had a fair turnout yester for Woogieman. Groovenerd PDXSVT Shotwell Siberian Ford Aussie Ford It was truly a celebration of life and in conversations with his wife she mentioned many times how he loved the Contour community and being part of it. He will be missed but on an up note his 14 1/2 yr old son Payton is looking forward to taking part in our group activities and when able plans to drive his dad's SVT. AF
  5. There is a go fund me site for Aaron's family. www.gofundme.com/2p8sxvw Please follow your heart in supporting the family during this troubled time. Thank You, AF
  6. Ya he had me closely follow him out of the area since he thought they might have an eye out for that blue 95 with the crazy driver. LOL AF
  7. A Celebration of Life for Woogieman will be held Sunday 9/18/2016 @ 5:00 PM Aloah High School 18550 SW Kinnaman Rd, Beaverton, OR 97078-2465 Off 185th south of Tualatin Valley HWY AF
  8. Please share your remembrances of the Woogieman: I remember his big smile and easy going manor. Always fun to be around. (sitting front right) Came to as many meets as he could and usually brought his son with him. A very dedicated family guy and good dad. (second from left) The summer we did the 5 clutch jobs his 99 was one of them and he gave me his Fadanza flywheel for mine. Always very generous. That's when he let me drive his 3L 95, and as the shop was only a few blocks from my house I took it home and did a quick mod to it...... put in a Cougar shift knob. When I got back I told him I'd done a mod but didn't say what it was. That took him quite a while to find. LOL AF
  9. LOL now we're talking. The smell could be from the evap system, but if it is running fine and no CEL then your ok. my 2 cents, AF
  10. The only place those two systems interact is in the cylinder itself...... so for that to happen it would mean that all the notches in the rings of one piston were aligned or broken allowing gas to pass by (not likely), or there was a hole in the top of the piston, either one of those situations would cause a very bad running engine. On the other hand if it was coolant instead of gas, then that would be caused by a blown head gasket (possibly accompanied by white exhaust smoke) or a cracked head or block. Either of those options can but not necessarily (at least at first) cause a bad running engine too. Whichever substance it is in the oil it would not be a good thing and with 230k on the clock most likely not worth repairing that engine. Replacement of the engine if the car is in good condition could be ok. Especially if you can replace it yourself (hubby included) you can usually find one for a few hundred bucks. Regards, AF
  11. the lopping issue is usually a MAF sensor or DPFE thing. The dip stick being broken off if it can be grabbed by a long pointed needle nose plier that could resolve that issue quickly. Many available at Pick n Pull. AF
  12. Good work, looking forward to seeing it in the car.
  13. good you figured it out and got it fixed. I just wanted to mention the other cause of strange electrical issues especially with the dash stuff. Over on the passenger side under the kick panel cover and carpet about the front opening for the door, there is a master ground point that has several small grounds attached to it. When I had trouble similar to what you are describing it was due to that ground point being loose. So just like any other electrical device first thing to check is, is it plugged in (in this case does the alternator work) and next is always check grounds. Happy driving, AF
  14. As you know the phrases easy way and clutch job do not abide in the same paragraph....... ever! But to your question. It depends on the engine 2L or V6. I think pulling the engine out of the top for the 2L is reasonable enough, but all of the V6 clutches we took the tranny out the bottom. We had a lift to use and I know some about pulling it from the driver side wheel well. One has to do what is best for the situation and tools you have at hand. IF you have a lift and engine support then out the bottom is as good as it gets. No lift but you have engine support then out the side might be best. No engine support the out the top as a unit could be the way. Anyway you do it you need to do the following: disconnect electrical remove starter disconnect fuel disconnect exhaust drain tranny pull axels If remove through bottom or side drop (unbolt steering rack) or loosen sub-frame if remove through top drain cooling system And many add'l steps in each one of those items. One summer we did 5 in a row, Friday we prepped the job, Saturday we took it in and out, Sunday we finished. Not a simple job but we mostly had about 4 people doing different stuff. PDXSVT on the grill made it better. Regards, AF
  15. A contour with out a CEL is it really a contour? AF
  16. LOL the new Tour survived the flex plate installation and is running fine at last report. AF
  17. Gee I have 205.55.r16's on my tours where did all of those other sizes from???? AF PS I picked up Radar's on my 95 that I got from Sears on a very good deal they aren't Z rated but still ok for the 4 banger. Installed they were something like $350 (IIRC) I priced them on line then found the store that had them near me. Once there I let them tell me what they could do for me at around $600 that's when I showed them the internet pricing and they quit talking and installed them. No more up selling and it was fun.
  18. Cool do you have some pics of the sunshade installed? AF
  19. I agree it should be in the calendar but I have only one question...... is it a high enough resolution? they want 5meg but could do with 4 maybe. It was a really great day hanging out with a few friends...... and what about putt'n these wheels on a Tour........ AF
  20. This is going to be a great meet...... for us southern folks please contact me and we'll plan our meet up and departure. AF
  21. You can see the fog light in the first pic in the second row the small light is the fog light indicator light. You can not easily see the indicator on the bezel as it is small and blends in with the black plastic. You have to look at it in the light to see it. AF
  22. Please note the differences in the contour and mystique components as you can see the location of the mystique fog light indicator light in the 3rd pic of post #2 of 2. it is the extra hole in the white plastic part, and also has a green lens in the black bezel part, hold yours up to the light and see if you have that as only fog light equipped ones do but the hole is in all of the white parts. AF
  23. For the last touch Shortyman99SVT refilled the R134 in the AC system and all is well.
