Trying to find Rubber boot covering steering column floor

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find a replacement boot for the one on my contour. It is the rubber boot covering the steering linkage as it goes to the underside of the car.

Anybody have a line on one?

You're looking for the plastic cover that the lower steering shaft passes through at the firewall? I think I have a couple of those floating around...

How do you get that thing back in? I looks really simple, but I just can't get it to click in.

Yes, I need one. It looks something like a rubber CV joint boot actually.

If the weather here would cooperate I would go down to the shop and snap a picture of it. We're expecting 5-8" here and it's all ice underneath the snow...

Don't really need a picture, if you say it is OK then I will take your word for it.

How much?

for reinstall: there is a plastic ring that snaps on over the steering linkage on the steering rack. then at the top, think up a snow cone shape, there is a clip that goes under the body. then towards the bottom there are two clips, just line up and press in.

i might have the clip/tab locations reversed, can'r recall right now.

Bummer, since I could not get ahold of you I bought one from CEG. If it isn't good I will get back to you.

That's ok, I'm not hard up for the $5 I would've charged you to ship it. I really didn't want anything for it (I found a couple).

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I'm having trouble finding these boots. Do you still have any laying around?

I should have one. $10 plus shipping. What is your zipcode? Coming from 97218

That's fine. 48234, all it is to put it in is a bolt in the lower steering column and wiggle it loose to free the old one, right?

PDXSVT - Isn't there one of these on the "parts" SVT? I beleive so, and it's doubtful it has rusted from the east coast salt!!!
