BuckeyeSVT
Let's preface this with I've been car shopping for quite a while. I sold my SVT to a good friend (and it's being taken care of gingerly), however I wanted something new and fun. My short list was very short - And had 2 cars on it .... Fusion and Focus ST. I drove both of the above and started looking at the numbers. They weren't very encouraging to say the least. I know the Focus ST has a pretty good aftermarket - However I'm getting older and that car isn't getting any bigger. I felt cramped in it, moreso than my Tour... So that was out. The Fusion is nice, but the performance for the money factor is pretty low. After some research and alot of digging. I changed direction on type of car to seek out. A Taurus SHO. Yes, it's a big car... But it's AWD and Twin Turbo... Who can argue with that? I searched high and low and there were only about 6 used one's in our state (New is out of the question, 43K is a little much for my budget). So I found a 2010 with 39K on it, went and looked at it... Drove it and bought it. Meet my 2010 Taurus SHO. It's loaded with the Rapid Spec 402A with all the goodies and Nav/Sony 12 speaker audio. Keyless start, heated and cooled seats.. Ahh. The thing is comfortable to drive and handles really better than expected in our snow here. I have come up with a short mod list so far... But I'm sure there will be more in the future. Pics: (Sorry, these were taken with my iPhone and the weather here hasn't been cooperative to get good photos..). -Dom
spridget
Congrats on the new ride. I would not have guessed you bought a Taurus. I also bought a new daily driver recently. The Focus ST was on my short list also, along with a Mustang. I previously looked at the SHO, as I've owned several of the older ones. Awesome car, but too big and too expensive for my driving habits. We use our diesel VW for running errands, and I only drive my personal vehicle about 10 miles a week, and parked on the street. So back to the used car market. I looked at SVT Focii, VW Phaetons, and a BMW 330ci, but this little Mercedes found me. 2005 C230 Kompressor Sport sedan. 6 speed manual. Very similar in size and spirit to the SVT Contour, but with all the bells and whistle one can only dream of in a Contour. I'm not letting go of my '99 SVTC yet, but the '98 SVTC is now for sale. BuckeyeSVT
Very nice choice! I've always been partial to a bigger car... Call it a personal preference, but I like my cars big. The Contour with a 3.0L was a sleeper, and this SHO doesn't disappoint in that department. With a $300 tune you can get down into the 12's in the quarter mile. Lol... This thing is a small ship, and can kick a Camaro SS's ass at the strip with a little modification. All in all, for the potential it has - And the fact I bought it for $6,000 under book value... It was a steal. I will say from being underneath the car and around it that they changed ALOT on the new Ford's. The engineering is wholely different than our old beloved Tours. I kinda like it, it's very "European" under the hood moreso than the Contour ever was. -Dom
spridget
I would love to own a new SHO. I test drove one about 18 months ago. The salesman instructed me to keep it under 100mph. I obliged him with some tire squeal in the dealership driveway and a sprint to 100mph on the frontage road. Only a couple gripes about the new Taurii... rear visibility is tight with the narrow rear glass and thick C pillars... but this is common to many new models of all makes. And the huge gear selector. Looks like it belongs in a F-250. Pretty minor complaints. The EcoBoost SHOs are true factory sleeper sedans. I've been quite impressed with the new Fords. Stop by Taurus and Sable Owners Club to show off your new car. There are only a handful of 6th Gen owners on the forum and I'm sure your knowledge of cars and enthusiasm for modding will be well received. I went on the highway and drove it about 1/2 throttle. That was pretty much enough to satisfy my curiosity. However on the way home from the dealer I did manage to blow the doors off of an S4.. The T handle shifter has already been replaced in the '13 with a standard slim shifter (which I'm upgrading to). I do like however that the Interceptor parts do interchange and some (like the brakes) are looking pretty nice as a factory upgrade to a civilian vehicle. Plus, I can reprogram my TCS and Stabilty control to the police calibration... Ohh boy. Possibilities are piling up. -Dom
spridget
Ya, I'm waiting for some Interceptors to start showing up at auction in a few years. Decontented and spartan.
