Contour Man
I like the idea of this for my racing setup. Any idea's where to get started?
mondeoman
Well, not sure if this helps much, but take a look at this setup - http://salem.craigslist.org/pts/3685278575.html I would love to know who fabricated the exhaust manifold. I can't tell much from the intake side of things. Check this site out. I use to purchase from them when I ran SCCA with my Ford Cortina, back in the day. http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-zetec-e-tuning-guide.html
mondeoman
Also check the following URL - http://forums.focaljet.com/zetec-tuning/453409-zetec-carburetor-kit.html MANY references in this forum to carb conversions, kits and pieces for the DIY's. DCOE carbs (Weber) seem to be the choice. I was on low end budge and ran a singe Weber downdraft card - 32/36 DGV-E carb on my Zetec 1.
Contour Man
I guess that would be the only to do it. I was hoping it would be so expensive. lol http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-zetec-e-tuning-guide/weber-alpha-carburettor-ignition-kit-zetec-18-45-dcoe-5-98-webk99001.html Would this fit on the 96 zetec? Also Does it come with everthing needed to run the car? They also mention 130PS Cams. I'm not sure what this means Edited April 23, 2013 by Contour Man
mondeoman
It is going to take MEGA $$$ to do this right - those Webers will need to be "tuned" for optimum performance. Here is where you can find answers...as well as more questions. http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-zetec-e-tuning-guide.html Hope this helps more than confuses. There are many stateside shops that have experience on the Zetec engine, in a RWD configuration, as used in Formula Ford open wheel racing cars for many years now. You will have to do some hunting to find this info, but it is out there. Mondeoman
Terry Haines
You are all making hard work of this! Weber side draughts are a common fit on Lotus 7 'type' kit cars with a Zetec engine. Matching size, jets, venturis etc is easy..depending on tune and cams selected etc. Intake manifolds are also off the shelf. Look at the UK sites and sites that cover Weber carb kits. Those of us who grew up fitting Webers to vehicles re Minis, MG's etc etc have found that jetting, matching etc is quite simple. There is a lot of informantion around on this subject and tuning multi carb set ups. Contour Man
Thanks terry for the input. I this it would be easier to do a carb setup because tuning an efi engine seems to be harder to do. Could i run everything stock on the motor to start? besides the intake of course
Contour Man
the thinking about just using the stock intake and fabin up a bracket. I'd have to block egr and inject hole but it would be good for proof of concept i think
Contour Man
so i guess my final question on this subject would be, Do you guys think it would be worth it?

mondeoman
Terry - those urls I list are from the UK, for the most part. Weber DCOE's are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE to purchase. DGV's aren't cheap either. Elecronics has many advantages, cost and ability to tune to the "ninth degree" being a biggie. Having grown up on English sports cars, then on to Cortina's and Festiva's (Kent engine variety) I have loads of experience with Weber carbs. What you say about tuning these is true, though you failed to mention the fun that arises from balancing multiple side-draft carbs ;-). I only recently became a convert of electronics - this approach is much less expensive than Webers, in all cases, assuming you build your own Mega-Squirt controller vs purchasing one already built. Options go off the chart at that point, but ultimately being able to communicate with your ECU/ECM allows a degree of tunability I have never seen approached on a budget until now. Each to his own, these are my personal experiences. You are all making hard work of this! Weber side draughts are a common fit on Lotus 7 'type' kit cars with a Zetec engine.
