Replace Steering Wheel Nut?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be working on the Voltour in the next few months, now that the house and gasoline cars are shaping up.  When I switched to an de-powered steering rack from another Contour, the steering wheel pinion was laid one tooth askew from the old one.  There's no way to get the steering wheel to line up when the wheels are straight, and that just bugs me.  I figure I need to pull the airbag and the steering wheel nut so that I can line it up straight.  The manual says to use a new nut to replace it.  Can I just loctite it back?  Has anyone else had to resort to this?

You most certainly can reuse the exsisting nut - just torque to correct specification and yes, use the correct Locktite for this application (color specific).
